Notes
The long awaited reissue of David Rose's music from the original Bonanza soundtrack LP that was released in 1961. Also included is the vocal version of the Bonanza theme tune as sung by actor Lorne Greene who played widowed patriarch Ben Cartwright on the show.
The original Bonanza soundtrack LP ("David Rose and his Concert Orchestra play his dramatic music from the NBC Televison Series") was a project initiated by composer/arranger David Rose whereby he wanted to release his music from the hugely successful western TV series that had first aired in 1959. Instead of just using the music that was used in the TV show, he selected eleven of the main themes and developed them into compositions that would work well on record.
For those that don't know, Bonanza was an western TV show which aired on NBC from September 1959 until January 16, 1973 and was the first network television series to film all of its episodes in colour.
Although the Bonanza theme is one of the best known tv show themes, it was not used for the entire run of the series. A new theme song was written in 1970 by David Rose which replaced his original tune for seasons twelve and thirteen. A new arrangement of the original theme returned for the fourteenth and final season.
