Notes
Oooo, no. Titter ye not. This is the soundtrack to the critically panned movie from director Michael Winner with music by The John Barry Seven.
The Cool Mikado (1962) was adapted from the famous Gilbert & Sullivan opera The Mikado and starred the great Frankie Howerd and a cast of British comedians and entertainers such as Lionel Blair, Tommy Cooper, Mike & Bernie Winters, Pete Murray and Stubby Kaye.
Lambasted on release and apparently the subject of a running joke between Frankie Howerd ("absolutely incomprehensible gibberish") and director Michael Winner ("you have to understand that I'm a genius"), The Cool Mikado is today viewed more sympathetically and indeed regarded as many as a genuine artifact of surrealist (and camp) cinema.
