Notes
This is the first official CD reissue of the original soundtrack to George Romero's third installment of his "Dead" series of movies - the classic Day of the Dead. If you're reading this then you probably love the movie as much as we do. And if you love the movie, then you're probably familiar with John Harrison's excellent soundtrack.
This limited edition CD (3000 copies) kicks off with the brilliant "Dead Suite" - a 19 minute piece of music containing the music from the first five minutes of the film and uses the memorable cues and themes that continue along the storyline of the movie. The other tracks use other cues and themes found throughout the movie. Also included on the CD are two vocal versions of the themes - one of which was used for the closing credits
The final 5 bonus tracks are various cues (some repeated from the "Dead Suite"), but with additional sound effects from the movie - zombies munching, ripping flesh and moaning. Nice.
Harrison, who had previously scored Romero's Creepshow, did a fine job with the "Day" score - combining tense, military-sounding action driven cues combined with the occasional respite that gives fleeting feelings of hope and serenity with the use of Caribbean themes... until the next round of zombie madness begins.
