From Beyond was based on the H. P. Lovecraft short story of the same name that was published back in 1934. The From Beyond soundtrack kinda breaks with traditional movie scoring in that it doesn't have any themes - themes that when employed, are used to signify the on screen arrival or re-appearance of a character, location or mood. Instead, Richard Band uses carefully textured and atmospheric motifs. What we get then is an incredibly layered and evocative score that perfectly matches the other-worldly, ethereal plot and on-screen action.

Richard Band won the "Best Music Award" for this soundtrack at the 1986 Barcelona Film Festival, beating out Aliens, Star Trek IV and Blue Velvet for the top prize!
