Notes
This is the world premiere CD release of the 1975 MCA LP of David Shire's wonderful orchestral soundtrack to the The Hindenburg, the disaster-conspiracy thriller starring movie with an all star cast that explored the possibility that the Hindenburg was sabotaged.
The original LP contained almost all of Shire's original music which has been digitally re-mastered at Universal using original stereo album masters for this CD version.
For The Hindenburg soundtrack, David Shire anchors the score with a luxurious floating soliloquy for trumpet with accompaniment by strings and woodwinds with French horn in tow. Pulsating action fuels "The Letter" whilst complex harmonies weight "Suspect Montage" and "Boerth Sets the Bomb". A powerful highlight of the score is the track "Fin Repair Sequence" which begins with a subtle figure for snare and bass drum with cymbals underneath the clarinets. The idea builds and strings add tension until the powerful brass appears. The full orchestra flows with repair melody then entire piece suddenly becomes a virtuoso display featuring dynamic, shrill ostinato for fortissimo flutes and piccolo over pounding chords in low brass. The cue reaches a powerful climax, ending with bravura finish!
Track 1 features newsreel narration from Hugh Douglas and the final track features and excerpt from Herb Morrison's famous Eyewitness Broadcast that he made at the time of the disaster.
Please note: this CD has a running time of 35:53 and is a Limited Edition of 3000 copies.
