Notes
Another great Bollywood music compilation, Indiavision: Hindi Filmsongs & Instrumentals 1966-1984 brings us exactly what it says on the cover - superb tunes from Bollywood movies spanning three decades.
Music is a major element of Indian cinema. Dipping its Hindu roots in many lands (Oriental, European, American...), gathering musical movements of incredibly diverse origins (Sufi, jazz, rock'n'roll...), it is nevertheless easily recognisable. Its importance in India is such that there is almost no other pop music production. Film songs are what you hear on every street corner, what people hum, what comes out of the transistors. On market places, on the bus, they are everywhere, broadcast months before the film is even released!
This CD features the greatest singers of this golden age of Indian music films: Usha Iyer, Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and notably Asha Bhosle and her sister Lata Mangeshkar.
