Notes
At last! It's the world premiere release of James Horner's much-requested The Journey Of Natty Gann soundtrack from the 1985 Walt Disney depression-era adventure about two friends and a wolf making a long journey, directed by Jeremy Kagan and starring Meredith Salinger, John Cusack and Ray Wise.
For The Journey Of Natty Gann soundtrack, Horner creates arguably his most emotional, Americana-flavoured score and fills it with lengthy trumpet solos, heartbreaking melodic lines and powerful orchestral sequences. Highlights are many but "Freight Train" stands out: as the trio races to catch train the composer increases the rhythm and density of cue whilst adding staccato brass which finally builds to an exhilarating climax. Rich minor-to-major harmonies and a sweeping brass melody during "Farewell" are yet more highlights.
Horner, with long-time engineer Simon Rhodes, personally assembled the tracks for this CD just as he would have for any major label in 1985, then allows nine additional minutes of music to play as a bonus after "Reunion-End Title". Rhodes mastered the CD at Abbey Road using Horner's own personal tape, the only surviving first-generation copy known to exist. Some minimal wear and tear is evident but crisp stereo sound prevails!
Running time 43:09 minutes. Limited to 2500 copies
