Notes
With Lifestyle Marketing, Thes One, crate-digger and DJ/producer from the great LA hip-hop group, 'People Under the Stairs' brings us two cool CDs/LPs in one lovely little package; a collection of genuine 70s radio commercials culled from composer Herb Pilhofer's albums Music That Works Volumes 1 & 2 and a set of Thes One's remixes of said jingles!
Based in the Minneapolis area, Herb Pilhofer has fronted jazz ensembles, scored movies, won a Grammy, and founded one of the first digital recording studios in the country called Studio 80, where a young Prince made his first demos. Pilhofer pioneered the use of Moogs and other synthesizers in commercial advertising music, and the result was nothing short of revolutionary.
In the 70s, Pilhofer released two LPs of his music from radio commercials - Music That Works Volumes 1 & 2 - and after discovering those great LPs during a crate-diggin' session, DJ Thes One was inspired to remix them and release them as Lifestyle Marketing. Nice stuff.
Please note: For the double LP version, each remix is followed by its original version. The originals and remixes are not on seperate LPs as they are with the CD version. Also, on the LP version, 'Pan-Am' 1 & 2 only appear as remixes - there is no 'Pan-Am Suite' on the LPs.
