The Lone Wolf & Cub series started life in 1970 as a series of Manga comic book stories in Manga Action magazine. The beautfully drawn and captivating stories (by Goseki Kojima and Kazuo Koike respectedly) chronicled the wanderings of lone Ronin (Assassin) Ogami Itto and his infant son, Diagoro, during the deadliest era of feudal Japan lending their skill as an assassin to help those in need whilst trying to avenge the death of their family and restore honor to their name.

From 1972 Kazuo Koike adapted the stories into a series of 6 superb movies that that have inspired a multitude of filmmakers ranging from John Woo to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez.

This remastered compilation of music from all six Lone Wolf & Cub movies showcases fascinating, eclectic soundtracks that combine traditional Japanese stylings with Western, 70's-era motifs.

In 1980 a single movie, Shogun Assassin, was released that comprised of edits from the first two original movies.

This is brilliant stuff. Classic minimal Japanese tunes take place alongside orchestral themes and blaxploitation-style soundtrack grooves. Nice.
