Notes
This mythical and highly
collectible 7 inch originally released
on the EGG label in 1968
is one of the best exercises
in vocal jazz with
funk and soul tendencies
to come out of
France. The track
"Manhattan Score"
alone makes for a
dancefloor sensation in
its own right. A great
moment of epic groove,
expertly led by pianist Burt
Blakey and inhabited at
every turn by Vic Upshaw's
magnificent spoken
word and the unbridled
backing vocals of the
delectable Silvets. With its
impeccable beat, dynamic
bass and luminous
scat, here we have
the perfect archetype of
the ultimate jazz/pop track
that the word's most
skilled crate diggers throw
themselves into hunting
out from the dusty 7 inch
depths. It all winds down
on the B-Side with the
enchanting and intense
"Mid Summer Night", slow
and hypnotic downtempo
drift possessed by the
voice of a weightless angel.
A slow hautecouture,
its place among
the clouds. Not content
with whipping our every
sense into a frenzy, this
rare record courts perfection
from start to finish
to finally hit us hard.
Manhattan Trio, a mysterious
and miraculous coming
together, where
rhythm rhymes with class.
Produced from the original master tapes! Limited edition (numbered).
