Notes
Woah! What a fantastic CD! This lovely little silver disc contains three top-notch soundtracks from Francis Lai.
First, we get the lush orchestral soundtrack to Terence Young's lavish costume drama Mayerling, based on the true-life tale of the tragic romance between Crown Prince Rudolph of Austria and commoner Maria Vetsera set in the backdrop of the mid 1800's political turmoil in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Next up is the great soundtrack to La Leçon Particulière, the drama from Michel Boisrond that, along with the groovy and orchestral instrumentals, includes two superb tracks with the sultry vocals of Nicole Croisille (who had previously had a huge international hit in 1966 with Chabadabada, the theme song she recorded as a duet with Pierre Barouh for the movie, Un homme et une femme (also written by Francis Lai).
And if those two weren't enough, we also get the groovy/jazzy soundtrack to Le Soleil Des Voyous, the 1967 crime-drama from director Jean Delannoy.
Highly recommended.
