Recent Bond movie themes in a lounge-style!
While nearly every Bond Theme from the golden era of the 60s and 70s are seen as the
epitome of style and class, the theme songs of recent years appear rather uneven in
quality.
The idea behind 'Mister Bond' is to turn the uncool Bond songs into cool ones,
and make the cool Bond songs even cooler than before. The eleven tracks on MISTER
BOND pay homage to the high production values of the originals, but translate them into a
lounge/nu-soul style. The main ingredients had to be style, elegance and swinging
coolness, which the guest singers bring in with their own vocal nuances and emotional
shadings.
Mister Bond presents the German R'N'B queen Cassandra Steen with her sexy
interpretations of "The Living Daylights" and "License To Kill", De:Phazz singer Pat
Appleton grabs "Goldeneye" and transforms it into a swinging rockabilly track à la Brian
Setzer Orchestra. At-Vance singer Oliver Hartmann turns the classic "Goldfinger" into a
weird tango with a touch of Brecht/Weill, Jutta Gückel sexes up "Tomorrow Never Dies" a
few degrees, and Katia B´s sexy Brazilian voice turns "Die Another Day" into a fluffy, loungy
Bossa Nova. Rick Washington turns "Nobody Does It Better" into a slow burning, funky
gospel track, and Vanessa Ekpenyong turns "The World Is Not Enough" into a soulful
ballad with string quartet.
