Goldsmith's score occupies a unique role in the trillogy - it gave him a chance to have fun and expand on the themes he'd created for the first movie. There's definately a vigor and energy to this middle movement that sets it apart from the others.

This release, from Varese Sarabande marks the first ever issue of the actual sountrack to the movie. Originally, in 1978, an LP was issued which was a re-recorded version of the score. This was due to the astronomical licensing fees that would have been imposed if the actual score was used. It also gave Goldsmith the chance to expand on some of the shorter cues. This Deluxe Edition CD contains both versions - the original LP and (for the first time ever) the actual score from the movie (which was discovered in 2001 after a search of the Fox archives). Back in 1978 the acutal score had been misfiled and presumed lost.
