Notes
Soundtrack to the obscure British movie from 1971 about a guy that has a penis transplant and then decides to find the member's original owner.
Starring Hywel Bennet along with Elke Sommer and Britt Ekland, the movie was a relatively low key affair that disappeared into obscurity after a brief cinema run in the UK.
The Kinks had one album remaining to fulfil their contractual obligations to Pye Records and so delivered the Percy Soundtrack just a few weeks after completing Lola Vs Powerman & The Moneygoround.
A single (God's Children) was half-heartedly released from the soundtrack, but Pye put very little effort into promoting the single or the LP and, like the movie, a veil seems to have been drawn around the entire project ever since.
The Percy soundtrack contains some of Ray Davies' most touching and personal songwriting. It introduces lyrical themes which would reappear throughout his work over the next decade - the terror of technology, fear of bureaucracy, nostalgia for a bygone age, the menacing seduction of romantic encounters and the refuge of fantasy in a world of oppression. Musically, the Percy soundtrack is the missing lik between Arthur and Preservation.
