Notes
Woah! This is one crazy CD! Psychedelic Percussion was originally released back in 1967 and while neither the LP or the two singles that came from the LP achieved a chart position, it has long been a much sought after collectors item.
Hal Blaine was the drummer's drummer! He played percussion on records by The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Sam Cooke, Simon & Garfunkel, The Mamas And Papas, Sonny & Cher and loads more. He was also played a big part of that famous "Wall Of Sound" that made Phil Spector so famous. He even helped get Frank Sinatra to his only No. 1 with his drumming on "Strangers In The Night"!
In August 1965, Blaine released his first LP; Drums! Drums! a Go-Go which consisted of standards such as "La Bamba", "Rumble" and "Land of A Thousand Dances". In 1967 he followed it up with Psychedelic Percussion. Blaine brought in the best he could find in the field of electronic music and percussion who in turn brought in an exotic mix of keyboards and percussive instruments.
Psychedelic Percussion is very much a piece of its time. This is an "out-there" kinda concept LP so don't go expectin' any tunes you can sing along to!
After listening to it, we came to the conclusion that it sounds very much like the music you'd hear in a psychedelic 60s movie like The Trip. The music found on Psychedelic Percussion would definately not sound out of place in a trippy psychedelic scene where a bunch of hippies are having a wild, acid-laced experience! Now... where's those blotters....
