Notes
Wow! This'll take ya back! It's the soundtrack to Pufnstuf - the movie spin-off to the hugely popular TV series H.R. Pufnstuf - the programme that introduced psychedelia into the diet of English and American children in the late 60s/early 70s.
Starring Jack Wild (RIP), the rest of the original TV show cast and also Mama Cass Elliot (from The Mamas and the Papas) and Martha Raye, the Pufnstuf movie explored the the backstory that is hinted at in the H.R. Pufnstuf TV shows' opening sequence where Jimmy (Jack Wild) runs away to be by himself after a bad day at school, taking his flute down by the sea to get away from it all. When he lays the flute down it become alive..
The Pufnstuf soundtrack, written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel ('Barbarella' 'Happy Days' 'Laverne & Shirley), is a great amalgam of bugglegum, psychedelic instrumentation and joyful knockabout songs including "Zap The World", "Living Island" and the fine Mama Cass solo number "Different" which is exclusive to this record.
After hearing the fab track "Living Island", we can't stop singing it!
