Notes
A terrific double CD containing brand new digitally remastered versions of the 1970s Decca recordings of Miklós Rózsa's epic soundtracks for Quo Vadis (1951) and Ben-Hur (1959).
Although nominated for an Oscar for Best Music, Rózsa's Quo Vadis soundtrack sadly didn't win. MGM Records, however, decided to issue an album of salient parts of the score from the soundtrack and Rózsa fashioned a concert suite in four movements. The first CD in this set contains a recording of the album that was made in 1978 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at London's Kingsway Hall when the composer was 70!
The second CD contains the 1977 recording of Rózsa's Oscar winning soundtrack for Ben-Hur - this time recorded at Walthamstow Town Hall with the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
"With these two pivotal scores, re-shown so regularly now on television and DVD, there is no doubt that Rózsa's exhalted compositions have enriched the hearts and minds of whole generations in the past - and will continue to do so for many to come"
