Notes
Interesting one this - Soul Sisters; The Sights & Sounds of the African-American Underground claims to be music from 1970s African-American porn movies, but a little bird tells us that it is in fact a side-project from the current San Francisco Bay Area scene that includes rocking electric jazz combo Om Trio (a group that's steeped in the 70s tradition of work by Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock) and psychedelic jazz rock groovers Mushroom.
The notes on the back cover read "this is a collection of music taken from 1970s X-rated African-American films and available for the first time anywhere. These X-rated films feature less "by the numbers" funk and more improvised grooves and "avant garde" textures than the typical blaxploitation soundtracks. Using mainly jazz musicians from Oakland, CA (where many of these films were made), these recently uncovered master tapes are sure to delight your eyes and ears".
Soul Sisters; The Sights & Sounds of the African-American Underground is an interesting collection of progressive funk and experimental tracks with a kinda "jamming" quality to 'em along with some more contemplative tracks towards the end of the CD. Don't be fooled by the short tracklist - this baby has a running time of 52 minutes.
