Notes
"We're the Sweeny, son, and we haven't had any dinner".... With that line, the British TV viewing public in the 70's were won over by the violent crime fighting antics of Detective Inspector Jack Regan (the late John Thaw) and Detective Sergeant George Carter (Dennis Waterman) from Scotland Yard's Flying Squad (Cockney rhyming slang - Sweeny Todd).
The Sweeny revolutionised the British police TV show genre with its gritty, violent storylines, criminals brandishing sawn-off shotguns, and dodgy sideburns and flared trousers.
The Sweeny was made on a relatively tight budget, so instead of commissioning original music, the producers went to the music libraries looking for tunes to embelish the violent scenes and car chases that the series became famous for. What's on this CD is a selection of tunes that were used throughout the series - all from the libraries of KPM, De Wolfe, Bruton Music and Chappell Music Libraries. There's also the original TV show theme and a track from The Sweeny movie Sweeny!.
This is seriously the best 70's crime-funk we've heard - all interspersed with some fantastic dialogue from the TV show. We strongly recommend playing this driving very fast in a beat-up old 70's Ford Cortina, wearing a dodgy suit, flared trousers and kipper tie. Absolutely essential.
