Notes
The guys at Silva Screen (known for their great soundtrack releases) throw a totally unexpected, but very welcome curveball in the form of this; Swinging Mademoiselles - Groovy French Sounds from the 60s.
Swinging Mademoiselles is a collection of fab tunes from the "Yé Yé" era - when, in the mid-1960s, sultry young French maidens, heavy on mascara and a languid innocence cast a sexy spell with what became known as 'les années yé yé'.
The Yé Yé girls took a firm grip on American and British pop and gave it a sparky Gallic twist, resulting in a vibrant form of music.
Swinging Mademoiselles highlights some of the gems from the era and includes the languid sound of Jacqueline Taieb's 7 Heures Du Matin with its lift from the Who's My Generation, Katy David's alluring take on the Petula Clark standard Call Me and Elizabeth's brazenly titled Je Suis Sublime - a true yé yé classic!
