Notes
Bernard Herrmann's totally sublime jazz/orchestral soundtrack to Martin Scorsese's classic movie Taxi Driver.
Bernard Herrmann was Scorsese's first and only choice for the Taxi Driver soundtrack but it wasn't easy for him to get Herrmann to sign-up for it. Only after much begging, pleading and letting Herrmann know who the lead actor was going to be (Robert De Niro) and what the script was actually about ("I don't do things about cab drivers") did Herrmann finally agree do score the Taxi Driver soundtrack ("I liked when he poured Peach Brandy on the Cornflakes. I'll do it.").
Herrmann was not in the best of health during the composing and recording of the score and the Taxi Driver soundtrack was the last piece of music that he composed and recorded. After recording the final cues on December 28th 1975, Herrmann went back to his hotel to have dinner with his wife and died in his sleep that night.
What Herrmann left us with is a powerful soundtrack to a classic piece of American cinema.
This fantastic CD contains all the cues from the the Taxi Driver soundtrack as composed and recorded by Bernard Herrmann and arranged in sequential order. Also included on the CD is the "Diary of a Taxi Driver" (music and dialogue), taken from the original LP along with some great cover versions of Herrmann's tunes arranged by Dave Blume, Musical Director/Supervisor on Taxi Driver.
