Notes
The world premier release of Ivor Slaney's Terror and Prey soundtracks is the first soundtrack release from Moscovitch Music - a new record label from Joel Martin; DJ, compiler of the Dawn of the Dead Incidental Music CD, collaborator in the Kung Fu Super Sounds and Bite Harder compilations and one-half of cult exotica group Quiet Village.
This CD brings together the previously unreleased soundtracks to legendary UK Horror director Norman J. Warren's late seventies horror movies Terror (1979) and Prey (1978) - both composed by one of TV & Radio's most prolific arrangers, Ivor Slaney (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Double Deckers, Ren & Stimpy Show, De Wolfe Music Library) and features dark proto synth-wave, electronic noise attacks, folk-soul and dirty cabaret rock.
These soundtracks are some of the first examples of minimal synth-wave, which is even more unusual in that they were written by the prolific composer Ivor Slaney, a classically trained musician who spent the majority of his long career producing orchestral tracks for library music companies like De Wolfe. Prey and its companion soundtrack Terror were both completed near the end of his long career and are definitely anomalies within his cannon of work as they are mainly electronic and distinctly 'lo-fi' in their sound. There are of course notable exceptions: The haunting and bittersweet folk-soul track 'Way Of The Stranger' from Prey sung by Val McKenna (who also provided backing vocals for the likes of Genesis and Rick Wakeman) and the menacing synth-rocker 'Orgasmic Stripper' from Terror are two examples of Ivor's ingenious talent for the leftfield. Even if you haven't seen either of the films, the atmosphere conjured up by simply listening to this music is both powerful and disturbing.
Please note: Some of the audio has been transferred from severely degraded tapes and consequently suffer from a loss of quality and some tracks contain sound effects and the occasional line of dialogue.
