Notes
The absolutely beautiful soundtrack from David Shire to Francis Ford Coppola's outstanding 1974 thriller, The Conversation starring Gene Hackman.
The Conversation soundtrack was written before the movie was actually shot. The deceptively simple, haunting piano score that Shire wrote for The Conversation is the result of Coppola asking Shire to read the script and compose themes that would influence the shooting and editing, rather than (as usual) having the music respond to an already edited film.
Along with the solitary and soulful piano solos, we also get a few jazz combo tracks - the music that surrounds the protagonist throughout the course of the movie.
This is the premier release of The Conversation soundtrack (in any form!) and was produced directly from the original stereo session master tapes. As a small bonus, also included on the CD is a real gem; a recording of the main theme by Shire and a full jazz combo that was never actually used in the final cut of the movie.
