Notes
The Bees are coming! The Bees are coming!
Jerry Goldsmith's terrific orchestral score to Irwin Allen's 1978 big-budget disaster movie about a swarm of African Killer Bees that invade the USA and head for Houston.
Producer/director Irwin Allen had struck gold with his two previous disaster movies; and The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and The Towering Inferno (1974), but even with an all-star cast (Michael Caine, Katharine Ross, Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda) and impressive special effects, The Swarm was a box-office flop and was savaged by the critics.
As is sometimes the case, bad movies can lend themselves to good soundtracks. The Swarm is one of these movies. The music to The Swarm is amongst Goldsmith's better scores of the mid-late 1970s and was written the same year that he gave us such works as Damien: Omen II and Capricorn One.
The 1976 vinyl release of The Swarm soundtrack featured about 40 minutes of music which (as was common at the time) was actually a re-recording of the score that altered and merged some of the movie's original music cues. This Limited Edition Prometheus Club release is the first ever (legitimate) release of the complete original score as featured in the movie.
Limited Edition of 3000 copies.
